HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR CHARLOTTE, NC HEADSHOT SESSION

HOW TO PREPARE FOR YOUR HEADSHOT SESSION

GENERAL

It’s always worthwhile talking to your photographer about your preferences when you book your session. For example, decide if you’d like a WHITE, BLACK, GRAY or OTHER backdrop to compliment you outfit. That means the studio will be ready as soon as you walk in the door. If you want a very special background color it may take several weeks for a studio of find, purchase, and have the background shipped in time for your session.

Mornings typically mean fresh, bright eyes, and happy outlook: a good time for a portrait. After work is when most people have the time for a portrait. Plan to arrive at your studio a little bit early just to relax a bit and have more time to freshen up and get ready.

INDIVIDUALS

Men generally don’t have a lot to worry about: arrive clean shaven. Dry your face if you are perspiring. Bring along a fresh shirt, jacket and tie (not rumpled, please). Comb your hair. Relax.

Women, need a bit more attention. Here are a few specific tips:

CLOTHING

  • Bring several outfits with colorful accent pieces, such as scarves or hats.

  • A briefcase or corporate label pieces would be more suited for business headshots.

  • Jewelry should complement, not over-power, your outfit.

  • Clothing should not be too tight.

  • Hosiery can flatter legs and introduce different colors for full-length portraits.

  • Dark outfits with light blouses work well together.

MAKEUP

  • Bright lights will cause highlights on the forehead, nose, and chin. A little extra powder in those areas will be helpful.

  • Eyes are very important. Highlight your eyes and eyelashes, but don't overdo either.

  • Don't over apply makeup.

  • Natural lipsticks and finger-nail polishes will allow the viewers to focus on you. Consider coming to your session with your hair in curlers and brush your hair out just before the session starts.

  • Hopefully your studio will have a dressing area where you can apply your make-up and get your hair ready.

  • Remember what is "in" today may not be stylish in 10 years.
